Today we're launching the Slack AI Writer in beta. Mention @ReadMe in the thread where someone flagged a doc problem, and it drafts the fix on a review branch that you can check and merge without leaving Slack. It ships alongside Personal Notifications, which deliver your branch review alerts as Slack DMs.
Slack AI Writer: Draft Doc Changes Directly in Slack
Slack is where team communication happens, and that includes documentation review and feedback. With Slack AI Writer, you can now respond to that feedback by making changes to your docs directly from Slack.
Mention @ReadMe in any channel it's been invited to (or DM it directly) and describe what you want changed: for example, you can ask it to "add a section on verifying signatures to the webhooks page." It reads the page, makes the change on a branch, and replies with a Drafted doc changes card listing every page it touched and a button that opens the side-by-side diff in ReadMe. The thread keeps its context, so "shorten the intro" or "use the same example as the Payments page" keeps working on the same branch.
When you're happy with it, you can tell AI Writer to merge the branch and it'll merge for you from Slack. It always asks for confirmation, and any rules you have set in your workspace for review are respected, like running checks or additional required approval. Admins can turn off branch merging and deletion from AI Writer in the Slack integration's settings.
Once an admin has connected your workspace to ReadMe and enabled a project, you're ready to roll: anyone in that workspace can mention or DM @ReadMe and ask for a draft.
Personal Notifications: Get Notified of Review Requests in DMs
You can already setup the ReadMe Slack integration to notify you in selected Slack channels when a branch is ready for review, approved, or merged. Now with Personal Notifications, assigned users can get notified about review branches directly in Slack DMs.
Once you've connected your Slack and ReadMe accounts, you'll start receiving review-related DMs for any branch you're assigned or tagged in: Ready for Review, AI Writer Ready for Review, Branch Approved, and Branch Merged.
To link your accounts in ReadMe, click the bell icon in the bottom left of your project, open Preferences, and click + Connect your inbox to Slack. Select the ReadMe project you want to connect and you're good to go!
One Workspace for Every Project
On Enterprise, a group admin connects the workspace, chooses which child projects it can write to, and sets branch rules for all of them from the AI Writer page on the enterprise dashboard. Each thread is pinned to one project, and the Writer asks which one when it can't tell. Don't have Enterprise? Book a demo.
Get Started with the Beta
The Slack AI Writer is in beta on Pro plans and above, and Personal Notifications come with the same connection. Connecting an Enterprise Group requires an Enterprise plan, and drafts use your project's AI credits. Send feedback with /readme-feedback in Slack.
Follow these steps to turn on the integration:
- Go to Settings → AI → AI Writer, open Slack, and click Connect Slack.
- Choose which projects it can write to and check the branch rules.
- Invite @ReadMe to a channel and ask for your first draft.
On Enterprise, the group admin does this from the enterprise dashboard. If you already use ReadMe's Slack integration for channel updates, those keep working; the Slack AI Writer is a separate connection.
The Slack AI Writer guide has the full setup, or talk to us about rolling it out to a larger team. Be sure to send us feedback with /readme-feedback in Slack so we can keep improving our integrations!
